Algeria, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia participated in the African Weight Lifting Championship that took place in Kampala. Out of the 200 participants, Arab Maghreb countries of which Uganda Embassy is accredited to sent a total of 100 weight lifters to compete in Kampala, August 2009.

50 Ugandan Music and Dance Troupe were part of the Pan-African Cultural Festivals that were concluded on 20th July, 2009 in Algeria. The Minister of State for Gender and Social Development, Hon. Rukia Nakadama represented Uganda to the 2nd Pan-African event that was last staged 40 years ago. The
festivals were sponsored by the African Union and Algerian Government. ARAB MAGHREB

Ambassador Moses Kiwe Sebunya received on 6th August, 2009 in his office the out-going Ambassador of Canada H.E Mr. Haig E. Sarafian. Ambassador Sebunya and his guest discussed bilateral issues on tourism and investment opportunities pertaining Uganda and Canada. Ambassador Sarafian thanked his host as Chairman of the Commonwealth Group for strengthening the Commonwealth spirit in Tripoli.

Ugandan students merge the Best in Computer Engineering and Banking at the 32nd Graduation ceremony held at the Faculty Islamic Call University, in Tripoli. Ambassador Moses K. Sebunya attended the awarding ceremony of which 4 Ugandan students out of 100 obtained their degrees.

African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) National Governing Council presented Uganda's peer review report to the 13th Africa Union Summit in Sirte, Libya. The Council Chairperson Bishop Zac Niringiye was accompanied by members of NEPAD Secretariat; Dr. Abbey Rwendeire,Ms. Solome K. Nakawesi, Mr. Richard Sekiwalyanga, Amb. Rosette Nyirikindi Katungye, Ms.Eunice Kigenyi, Ms.Sylvia Ufoyuruand Ms. Vivien Kobusingye.

The 13th African Union Summit end on 3rd July, 2009 Sirte, Libya. Hon Sam K. Kutesa Minister of Foreign Affairs led Uganda�s delegation which included among others; Hon. Hope Mwesigye, Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Hon. Ephraim Kamuntu, Minister of State for Finance (Economic Planning), Hon Asuman Kiyingi, the State Minister for Lands and Amb. James Mugume, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The theme of the Summit was investing in Agriculture for economic growth and Food security. The Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Program (CAADP) was
also launched in Tripoli, Libya during the AU Summit.
